INSTRUCTIONAL CLINICS

Instructional Clinics are a great way to increase your sailing skills and knowledge in a short one-session format. These clinics are a complimentary benefit to Sailing Members, but unless marked as "member-only" are also available to non-members. UPCOMING CLINICS

Intro to Navigation

Learn the basics of navigation in this entry-level clinic. We will cover basic chart reading, identifying landmarks and aids to navigation, and plotting a safe course. You will also learn to identify your location on a chart through the use of a compass. Instruction will all take place on land in a classroom.

Member-only qualification clinics

These 3-hour sessions are only open to current sailing members and will provide an opportunity to demonstrate the necessary skills to become qualified to rent out additional boats they are not yet qualified for. Member-only Social Sail

Join us for a Social Sail to meet other MBAC members and get out on the bay on RS Quests and Hobie Getaways. Get a refresher on rigging, ask an instructor questions, or simply enjoy sailing on Mission Bay with other members. The Social Sail is only open to current members already qualified to rent the Quest or Getaway. Please email us at info@mbaquaticcenter.com if you are a current member and would like to sign up.

Sailing Efficiency Clinic

This clinic will go beyond the mainsheet and jib sheets and take a close look at how to use all of the sail controls to get the most out of your boat across a wide range of conditions. Sailing efficiently not only means that you will sail faster, but you will also be more comfortable while maintaining full control of your boat. Using the Hobie Getaway and RS Quest we will cover the use of the traveler, boom vang, outhaul, and cunningham while also covering tell-tale use and weight placement.

Prerequisite: Current MBAC qualification on RS Quests or Hobie Getaways

Spinnaker Clinic

Spinnakers are colorful sails often used on both racing and cruising sailboats to gain extra speed when sailing downwind. Often perceived as complicated and intimidating, during this clinic you will see just how easy and fun flying a spinnaker can be. Topics include rigging, hoisting, trimming, jibing, and dropping an asymmetrical spinnaker on our RS Quests.

Prerequisite: Current MBAC qualification on RS Quests or Hobie Getaways
